With obesity rates climbing at an unprecedented rate, The Field of Public Health has become increasingly vital for understanding and preventing this phenomenon. Public health research is crucial as it encompasses nutrition, physical activity, and public policy, as focuses to determine the root causes of the obesity epidemic, to develop and promote a healthier lifestyle and bury the obesity-related disease. While there is a large amount of research seeking causes and solutions to the obesity epidemic there is no one solution that fits all, in fact there is a major knowledge gap and much more to be uncovered regarding how does the affordability and accessibility of food impact obesity rates. In this research study, I aim to investigate the impact of food accessibility and affordability on obesity rates within areas of varying income in the United States, more specifically how food deserts, density of fast food, and the quality of produce available to individuals and its impact upon obesity rates. Utilizing strategies and approaches to overcome any foreseeable issues in this dynamic and complex field. This next chapter will provide an insight and background on the study of obesity along with, how low-income societies vary from high-income and the plethora of factors that lead to varied nutrition among these regions, the research problem, along with the research’s goals, of what I which to demonstrate, ongoing questions, the significance of the study, and ultimately the limitations.
